Top Five mistakes made at the gym… gymming is not just getting six pack abs.

February 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Merely going to the gym is not a promise for improvement of your health.  Conversely, reckless gymming can cause health hazards.  Below is a list of common mistakes made at the gym that can lead to severe health problems.  Note them and make sure you don’t make these mistakes next time you head to the gym.

1 Lifting too much weight:  listen to your body.  Don’t lift more weight than your body allows you to.  Just because you see someone else lifting heavy weights at the gym, don’t try it yourself.  You can make a gradual progress in lifting heavier weights.  This is far more effective and safe

Skipping the warm up:  even when you are pressed for time, allot some time for warm up and prepare your body for the intense work out that follows.  Warm up increases the body temperature and heart beat, thus preparing it for the work out

3 Improper Goal Setting:  It is common for people to join the gym after getting inspired by a toned body they notice in a film star or a model.  Most people set unrealistic goals, such as aiming for six pack abs.  They end up overstraining the body which could adversely affect the body.  Have challenging goals, but not unrealistic ones.

Using energy drinks and protein powders with moderate workout:  Energy bars, energy drinks and protein powders that help increase the muscle mass is popular and easily available these days.  It is a common conception that to supplement the body with enough strength, these health foods are a must.  But the fact is that not every gym goer needs these foods.  Only those who are into intense workout may need this.  Make sure you consult a nutrition expert or a dietician before taking these supplements.  Unnecessary consumption of such foods can add up to the body weight and your workout will be of no use then.

Not drinking enough water:  Don’t wait until you are thirsty.  Work out dehydrates your body and needs large amount of water to balance the hydration level in the body.  Also, water drains out the toxins in the body thus helping you to stay fit and beautiful.  Water and workout is a great combination for a fit body.
