Will the Mumbai Terrorist Attack affect Medical Tourism?

November 28th, 2008 · No Comments

India a land of spirituality, the birth place of yoga, the world’s largest multi-cultural democracy was attacked on the evening of 26th November 2008.

Terrorists claiming to be members of the Deccan Mujahideen, attacked the famous Leopold  Café, The Taj Hotel, The Oberoi Hotel now known as the Trident, and the Cama Hospital among others.

The targets were evidently foreigners. British, American, Isareli and other tourists, who’d come to visit this ancient land.

Thousands of visitors come to India from all over the world every year. Some to connect with a culture which is thousands of years old, some for spiritual healing, some for India’s great tradition of Ayurveda, some for medical tourism, and many to do business with one of the worlds fastest growing economies.

What were the terrorists trying to achieve? To bring the worlds largest democracy to its knees?  Will they succeed? No.

How can one terrorize a land that has seen so much strife, and yet prevailed with such strength?  A land that produced a Gandhi.  How does a yogi or a Zen master see opposition? They fight the fight, endure and overcome the darkness.

India will continue to excel.  India will fight and over come these dark days. And India will produce some of the worlds best Engineers, Doctors and Nurses.  A country that is known for its technology, spirituality and people, will continue to serve the rest of humanity.

Many people have been terrorized. And people have fought and died for the good.  Because Good will prevail.  And people will go where there is Good.

The attack on Cama Hospital can be seen as one that was aimed at discouraging medical tourists. And though foreigners were affected, swift action by Indian authorities have ensured the hospital’s safety.

Medical tourism  is one of India’s best contributions to the world. With highly qualified doctors and nurses and state-of-the –art technology, Indian hospitals are among the best in the world. All at costs that are most reasonable.  Especially for people in need of immediate health care from western countries, where costs are prohibitive and waiting lists long, India will remain one of the best options.

An India of spiritual strength has a lot to offer to the rest of the world, terrorists or evil not withstanding.
