Lasik surgery- a great relief to US navy and Marine Corps.

November 26th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Being a professional pilot and aviator are probably the most visually-demanding occupations.  This is especially true with aviators in the military where split-second decision making is part of the mission.

Military has demanding visual requirements.  This is because troops are expected to survive and fight for the nation in extreme conditions and using contact lenses or glasses will come in the way of performing the duty efficiently.  Refractive surgery, including PRK, LASIK, LASEK and epi-LASIk are the best ways to make visual corrections for these people.

LASIK surgery performed on military personnel has consistently shown positive results and many studies have been made to prove this.  In one such study, 30 aviators form the Navy and Marine Corps who had undergone LASIK surgery were involved and results of the surgery was recorded.  It was found that all eyes had attained 20/20 uncorrected visual acuity within tow weeks after surgery.  93% of all eyes had attained best corrected visual acuity of 20/12 or better barely one month after surgery.

Success stories of military personnel must have enough confidence to people who were hesitant in going in for LASIK treatment for an affected eye.  LASIK has shown positive results in the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.  For those who want to avoid glasses and do away from using lenses, LASIK may be the best option yet.  When performed by an experienced surgeon, you are sure to reap benefits from the surgery
